Photos from the job

A large bungalow roof was stripped and re-slated across its full length. Twin roof windows and rooflights were fitted into the new slopes, the stove flue was flashed through the roof, and new timber verges were fixed at the gables.

A big roof in stages

Long bungalow roofs are stripped and covered in sections so the house is never left open for longer than the weather allows. The progress photo shows one section slated while battens are still visible near the ridge.

A job this size is planned around the forecast. Scaffold goes up first, then each section is stripped, felted, battened and slated before the next one is opened.

Adding light while the roof is off

A re-roof is the cheapest time to add roof windows or rooflights, because the slopes are already open and the flashings can be built into the new covering. Here twin roof windows and slim rooflights were added to bring light into the rooms below.

The stove flue was also flashed through the new roof so there is no old, patched detail left behind.
